Fourth Grade Teacher

Full-Time Junior School Science Teacher, K - III

St. Bernard’s School seeks a full-time Junior School science teacher for the 2019-2020 school year.  Master’s degree in education is strongly preferred, in addition to lead teaching experience.

Job Summary:

As the Junior School science teacher you will be providing inquiry based instruction pertaining to all of the major scientific content areas (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, and Environmental Science).  The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, motivated, highly organized, and enjoy working with boys in grades K - III.

Responsibilities of the Junior School science teacher include but are not limited to

• Creating and implementing inquiry-based lessons.
• Set-up and clean-up of laboratory experiments.
• Caring for live animals.
• Maintaining a gradebook and other continuing assessment of students.
• Correct students’ work and perform other administrative duties as needed.
• Write cumulative reports throughout the year.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking successful classroom management strategies.

Associate Positions (Second and Third Grade)

The two-year Associate teaching program at St. Bernard’s School is suitable for those who are in the early stages of their careers as educators.  Associates work alongside all three homeroom teachers to support students in the grade for the full year.  Associates work most often with small groups of students, though they also have many opportunities to lead full-group lessons.  As full-time faculty members, Associates are a valuable part of grade level teams, which engage in frequent collaboration related to planning and teaching.  They assist homeroom teachers with the day-to-day running of the classrooms and general supervision of the boys.
 
In addition, Associates have opportunities for professional development, geared toward strengthening their teaching as well as supporting their pursuit of future career opportunities.

St. Bernard’s development office seeks a Director of Communications

This position requires a person with excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills as well as facility with technology (experience with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge and website databases a plus).  While previous experience in independent school development is preferred, we will consider applicants with the desire and demonstrated ability to learn quickly.  Attention to detail, organization, flexibility with time, and interpersonal skills are all essential to this position, as is discretion with confidential information.  Early mornings and evenings will be required.  This position requires a Bachelor’s degree. 

Responsibilities include:

Maintaining school’s website
  • Assembling and writing news stories about school events
  • Taking photographs on a regular basis
  • Keeping all information up-to-date
  • Managing all online academic, athletic, and class web pages and calendars
  • Managing/updating class and team rosters
  • Posting online announcements for parents, students, alumni, and faculty
  • Maintaining/managing the school’s social media presence
Publications
  • Initiating ideas for articles for the newsletter
  • Gathering, editing, and writing articles for the newsletter
  • Working with the alumni director to produce the newsletter
  • Working with the database manager to produce the annual report
General Support
  • Receiving and managing R.S.V.P.s for events
  • Attending, helping, and photographing school events/dinners
  • Photo and video editing
  • Providing administrative support for the busy development office
Managing all correspondence for the school and parents association.

The Director of Communications will report to the Director of Development.
