Goals for Good

Cheers could be heard throughout St. Bernard’s on Saturday, March 10, while over eighty boys in kindergarten through sixth grade participated in the annual Goals for Good soccer tournament.
Grouped by age, boys rotated between the three gyms to compete in friendly soccer and dodge ball games.  Upper School boys, parents, and coaches volunteered their time to keep track of scores and pass out pizza to hungry participants.

This year Goals for Good proceeds will go to two international youth soccer organizations.  Love.fútbol is a non-profit that mobilizes and engages communities to plan, build, manage, activate, and redefine their own football pitches as sustainable platforms for social change.  The Olympian Mutekanga Organisation was founded by our very own Coach Mutekanga.  Focused on his hometown in Uganda, Coach Mutekanga’s organization supports youth soccer programs by providing sports facilities, education, and supplies.  Gently-used soccer equipment that was collected on Saturday will be donated to the Olympian Mutekanga Organisation.

This event would not have been possible without the help of the Community Service and Multicultural Fair committees, Ms. Oshins, and the many parent and faculty volunteers.  Thanks to the Parents Association for underwriting the cost of participant t-shirts and food so that 100% of the funds raised will be donated to these terrific organizations.  Through teamwork and generosity, our community has successfully combined service and fun to make a difference for children throughout the world.
