Masks Optional

St. Bernard’s reached a milestone this past week when New York schools were allowed to drop their mask mandate.  Teachers and students alike were so happy to see each other’s smiling faces at last.

New Yorkers have been wearing masks for two years, and there are many students and new faculty members who have never been in the building without a face covering, especially kindergarten and first-grade boys who have never known an unmasked St. Bernard’s.  Junior School teachers were especially pleased to see faces in reading groups.

Masks are optional and some students and faculty will continue to keep theirs on.  The boys have been respectful of one another’s choices and our Good Heart pillar, “Consideration of Others,” has been top of mind this week.  One Middle School boy upon entering the building for the first time without a mask said, “This is going to feel so weird, but I can’t wait!”
