Assembly

St. Bernard’s has a strong sense of community.  This is best seen in the school assembly held each week.  Every Friday morning, just after 8:30, all students and members of the faculty and staff meet for assembly in the small gymnasium on the first floor.  During the year each class has a chance to put on a performance: a play or a medley of songs and poems.  We also have outside speakers and performers: a woman who marched in Selma, Maasai warriors from Tanzania, shadow puppeteers from France, and musical groups.  Boys report on the games, make community service announcements, and put on skits in which they award our trusty alligator to the neatest classroom.  We try to keep things light, but there are serious moments, and the assembly can be a good place for the occasional brief commemoration or homily.
