In the second part of this series, we introduce you to some new members of our faculty and staff.  We extend a warm welcome to each of them.

Roger Barrientos III, Database Manager and Spanish Teacher

Roger Barrientos grew up in the Phoenix area, where he was graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor’s degree in French and Spanish.  At twenty-one, he moved to New York to work toward a master’s degree at New York University.  After graduating with an M.A. in foreign language education, with concentrations in Spanish and ESL in 2014, Mr. Barrientos worked briefly as a Spanish teacher at both Village Community School and Bank Street.  While taking time off from teaching to study computer science through SUNY, Mr. Barrientos worked for Apple at the Genius Bar, where he worked for a year before joining St. Bernard’s as the database manager and eighth grade Spanish teacher.  In his free time, Mr. Barrientos enjoys cooking, contact sports, video games, and speaking multiple languages to his six-month old niece.

Heejung Eom, Grade I Associate

Heejung Eom grew up in Queens, New York.  She studied Christian Religion at Eastern Nazarene College in Massachusetts.  Upon graduation, Ms. Eom worked at a clinic with Medicare patients and spent most of her summers in Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Haiti, helping and teaching children.  After a couple of years Ms. Eom realized her true calling was to work with young children.  She enrolled in the master’s program at Hunter College and was graduated in 2016 with a degree in Early Childhood Education.  Before coming to St. Bernard’s, Ms. Eom worked as a Kindergarten Assistant at Robert Louis Stevenson School (PS183).  In her free time, Ms. Eom loves strolling through the park, hiking, traveling, and having desserts with her friends and family.
