Middle School Spelling Bee

The tension was palpable on the morning of June 5.  Mr. Demeny commented that this was the longest competition in the sixteen year history of St. Bernard’s Middle School Spelling Bee—it lasted for forty-five minutes.  The six finalists were challenged with:

a-e-r-o-n-a-u-t-i-c-s
c-y-g-n-e-t
a-b-a-t-t-o-i-r
t-r-i-s-k-a-i-d-e-k-a-p-h-o-b-i-a

At the end of a very competitive match, a sixth grader was the last one standing.  The winning word?   Z-u-c-c-h-i-n-i.
