Honored Latinists

by Joy Hurd

Back in March sixteen St. Bernard’s eighth graders joined almost 150,000 students around the world in taking the National Latin Exam (the first time the test was given at the school, so far as anyone can remember).  The results are in, and we are proud to announce that many boys earned honors for their impressive performances.

Eight boys received gold medals and summa cum laude recognition on the Latin II exam, the test level often taken by tenth graders at other schools.  Two other boys scored high enough for magna cum laude honors, and one boy earned cum laude recognition.

In order to prepare for the more advanced Latin III exam, two boys chose to study on their own to learn material beyond that covered in the eighth grade curriculum.  After all their preparation, these ambitious young Latinists missed only three questions between them, and both earned gold medals for their summa cum laude performance.

Congratulations and thanks to all the boys who took the exam.  Euge!
