St. Bernard’s Lacrosse
St. Bernard’s lacrosse teams both had strong seasons. St. B’s varsity lacrosse team had five wins and three losses. They are a young team, with many seventh grade players, who held a record of five wins and one loss until late in the season. They over-achieved throughout the spring and had a terrific year.
St. B’s junior varsity lacrosse team had five wins and two losses this season. The fourteen boys on the team worked incredibly well together. As a group they are hardworking and coachable. In Coach di Fazio’s nineteen years at St. Bernard’s, this is one of the strongest teams he has seen. He is excited about their future.
For St. Bernard’s lacrosse coaches, it is important that the boys learn the game of lacrosse through practice and play time on the field. During practice coaches let the boys play games and then stop them at key moments to teach strategy. St. B’s coaches teach an offense that is used in high school lacrosse. Boys are well prepared when they go on to play in high school and college, as many do. Over the years coaches have found that giving boys plenty of time to play in games is vital. During games, boys learn how to read and react to other players on the field.
St. B’s coaches are proud of all of the boys who played lacrosse this year. Congratulations to St. B’s lacrosse players for a successful season. Special thanks to Coach di Fazio, Coach Muñoz, and Coach Rice for all of their hard work and dedication.
