Grade VII Dissection Lab
by Virginia Dreux, science teacher
Last week in the science lab the seventh graders completed their unit on the circulatory system with the dissection of a pig heart. Some boys were hesitant to make their first cuts, but they quickly took to the challenge. They started by examining the vessels connected to the heart, which supply the body with oxygen. They cut their way to the atria chamber and examined the tricuspid and bicuspid valves. Finally they dissected the lower chambers of the heart, examining the unique structures found in the left and right ventricles. The boys completed the daunting task with ease, though I’m sure it will be a class that few will be able to forget.
