Singing into October

St. Bernard’s had a music filled assembly this morning.  First, the St. Bernard’s Singers officially welcomed the month of October by singing “October,” a song first performed at Harrow School in England.  Coincidentally, St. Bernard’s Old Boy Kabir Gandhi ’11 is currently a senior at Harrow and its Head Boy, its greatest student leadership position.  In Kabir’s honor, Mr. Johnson granted all the boys an extra minute at recess today.  The boys cheered with excitement.

Mr. Johnson then introduced The Baker’s Dozen, an all-male a cappella group from Yale University.  The singers performed a set which included Toto’s “Africa” and Mentor Williams’ “Drift Away.”  St. Bernard’s boys were particularly amused by the “Yale Fight Song,” in which a freshman singer got to perform the coveted solo of the barking bulldog.

St. Bernard’s is grateful to have had two talented student groups from Yale visit this year.  (Yale’s improv group The Purple Crayon performed for us a few weeks ago.)  Many thanks to The Baker’s Dozen and The Purple Crayon!
