Grade I: Sweet, Salt, Sour, and Bitter

Mrs. Caldwell-Ott’s first grade science lesson this week focused on the sense of taste. The boys in I Flannigan were given cups labeled “Sweet,” “Salt,” “Sour,” and “Bitter,” as well as several Q-Tips. They were asked to dip a Q-Tip in a cup, touch it to four different areas of their tongues, and identify in which area(s) they could sense the taste. After thoroughly rinsing their mouths with water and drying off their tongues with a paper towel, the boys repeated the experiment with each cup.
