St. Bernard’s School is a K-9 independent boys’ school founded in 1904. The school, located on the Upper East Side, serves a diverse community of approximately 385 students and 100 employees.

The school is seeking a Night Cleaning Supervisor. Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the Night Cleaning Supervisor is a 12-month, full-time working supervisor responsible for daily cleaning operations and supervision of the night cleaning staff.

Responsibilities: 
  • Perform cleaning duties in a variety of areas, as assigned by the Director of Facilities
  • Supervise night cleaning staff, ensuring complete cleanliness of the school
  • Collaborate with the outside cleaning company’s supervisor for optimal cleaning efficiency
  • Be willing to respond to emergencies or other duties outside of the normal scope of work
  • Ensure the school building is clean, ready, and safe for school to open as scheduled
  • Be responsible for closing the building at night and setting the burglar alarm, once everyone has exited
  • Ensure the garbage area is clean at all times and assist in removing garbage from the building for pick-up
  • Perform building checks on days that the school is closed, including weekends and holidays, based on a rotating schedule developed by the Director of Facilities
  • Report any unusual or unsafe conditions to the Director of Facilities
  • Remove snow and ice from the sidewalk using shovels and ice melt 
  • Assist with set-up, breakdown, and cleanup of school-wide events, including after-hours
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities

Physical Activities/Qualifications:
  • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, and stairs
  • Must be able to work in high and low temperatures for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to work in noisy or small environments
  • Must be able to turn, twist, crawl, or maneuver into different positions to satisfy certain job requirements
  • Prior experience supervising a cleaning crew
  • Ability to operate all equipment in a safe manner
  • Able to work well alone or with others in a team environment, ensuring work is completed in a timely manner
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without assistance
  • Display a pleasant and professional attitude at all times
  • Must possess a high degree of integrity
  • Ability to speak Spanish is desirable, but not required
