Job Overview:
Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, this full-time, 12-month maintenance position is responsible for the daily upkeep and maintenance of building facilities. The role also includes routine cleaning and custodial duties to ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment. This role will start July 1, 2026 or sooner.
Responsibilities:
Perform daily routine and preventative maintenance throughout the school building.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests and ensure work is completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard of quality.
Report any unusual, hazardous, or unsafe working conditions to the Director of Facilities or Building Mechanic.
Assist the building mechanic with projects, as needed.
Perform snow and ice removal at building entrances and walkways to maintain safe access to the school.
Provide support during after-hours emergencies and school-wide events as required.
Conduct scheduled building inspections on days that school is not in session, including weekends and holidays, according to a rotating schedule established by the Director of Facilities.
Remain available to respond to emergency calls outside of regular working hours when necessary.
Demonstrate flexibility in supporting operational needs, including assisting with nightly cleaning and custodial responsibilities throughout the school.
Safely operate hand tools, power equipment, and aerial lifts in accordance with established safety procedures.
Maintain the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and a positive attitude in all interactions and responsibilities.
Physical Activities/Qualifications:
Working knowledge of basic building trades, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, locksmith, and mechanical systems.
Minimum of five years of building maintenance experience, preferably in a school or educational setting.
Ability to safely ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds and stairs.
Ability to work for extended periods in varying temperature conditions, including both high and low temperatures.
Ability to bend, twist, crawl, or maneuver into various positions to perform job-related tasks.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Demonstrated a high level of moral character, professionalism, and integrity.
Must have FDNY Certificate of Fitness S-95 and F-07, or obtain both certifications within three months of employment.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $27-30/hour.
