Job Overview:
St. Bernard’s School is a K-9 independent boys’ school founded in 1904. The school, located on the Upper East Side, serves a diverse community of approximately 385 students and 100 employees.

Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the Building Maintenance Mechanic position is a skilled position, responsible for assisting in the daily and long-term maintenance of the facility.
Responsibilities:
Perform daily maintenance and upkeep of the facility.
Conduct inspections of the facility, including classrooms, offices, and common areas, as well as all mechanical systems, to ensure all are in working order and meet health and safety standards.
Perform general maintenance and repair tasks, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, doors, locks, furniture, windows, and other facility components.
Respond to routine requests from faculty, staff, and other members of the community.
Respond to or assist with after-hours emergencies, including snow removal and building repairs.
Assist with the installation of new equipment and support larger projects, as necessary.
Complete preventative maintenance of equipment as assigned by the Director of Facilities through Asset Essentials.
Inspect work performed by outside vendors or contractors to ensure that the work is of the highest quality and completed to satisfaction.
Perform minor cleaning, setup, and breakdown tasks as required to support daily school operations and evening events.
Attend weekly meetings with the Director of Facilities and team to review upcoming events and department-related activities.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities
Maintain the highest level of integrity while displaying a pleasant and professional attitude at all times.
Qualifications, Experience, and Physical Demands:
Three to five years of experience in a similar role; experience in a school setting is a plus
Working knowledge of fire alarm systems and their components
Ability to read and understand electrical, architectural, and mechanical drawings
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Knowledge of Google applications, including email, Drive, Sheets, and Docs
Ability to operate a scissor lift and to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, and stairs
Ability to turn, twist, crawl, or maneuver into different positions to satisfy certain job requirements
Availability to work nights and weekends, as necessary
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without assistance
Possess a high degree of moral integrity and strong problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail and a professional attitude
Possess FDNY Certificate of Fitness S95, F07, and C92 or obtain all within the first three months of employment

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the starting annual base salary range for this non-exempt position is $38.46 to $41.00 per hour.
