Admissions Process

The admissions directors welcome inquiries throughout the year.  Applications for Kindergarten are accepted from September through November 15.  Once a completed application is received, the admissions office will contact the parents to arrange a tour of the school and a meeting with the headmaster.  A separate interview for the boy will also be scheduled.  We have no application fee.

In upper grades, applications are considered on a rolling basis if space is available.  The admissions office must inform an applicant’s current school of his interest in St. Bernard’s and receive a boy’s latest transcript, along with test results from the Educational Records Bureau.  For entry into the first grade and beyond, additional testing and a visit by the boy are required.

The school bases admission on what it believes to be the best interest of each candidate.  St. Bernard’s does not discriminate against applicants on the basis of race, religion, color, national, or ethnic origin.  The school is an active member of the National Association of Independent Schools.
Applying to St. Bernard’s
Your visit will include a comprehensive tour given by the Co-Directors of Admissions.  We require all interested families to meet with us in order to develop a clear understanding of life at St. Bernard’s School.  Two applicant families are scheduled for each tour.  Following the tour, parents will meet with the headmaster, Stuart Johnson.  Please plan to be at St. Bernard’s for approximately two hours on the day of your visit.

Kindergarten interviews are scheduled on a separate date.  Boys will meet one-on-one for approximately thirty minutes.

Requirements
St. Bernard's no longer requires kindergarten applicants to take the Early Childhood Admissions Assessment (ECAA) through the Educational Record Bureau (ERB).
Siblings and Legacies
St. Bernard’s gives early notification to all siblings and legacies.  We adhere to the early notification dates mandated by the Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY).   If you are interested in early admission, please contact the admissions office no later than December 1.
