After-School Programs

The St. Bernard's Later Alligator Program (LAP) is an enrichment after-school program for boys in kindergarten through ninth grade.  Since LAP began in 2013, the program has enjoyed and sustained tremendous popularity.  Each term approximately 80-85% of Junior School boys and up to 60% of Middle School boys participate in LAP.  LAP taps into boys’ individuality through a broad range of activities.  Options include sports such as soccer, baseball, basketball, and flag football, as well as non-athletic pursuits.  Chess, cooking, Mandarin, Minecraft, Mad Science, and robotics are perennial favorites.  Whether a boy likes sports, art, drama, or all of the above, LAP is designed to provide an enjoyable opportunity beyond the typical school experience.

AFTER-SCHOOL OFFERINGS

LATER ALLIGATOR PROGRAM

The Later Alligator Program (LAP) runs from school dismissal until 5:30 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, and until 4:30 p.m. on Friday.  

LAP has three sessions:  fall, winter, and spring.  Activity offerings change seasonally.  Information on the upcoming season is distributed to parents via email as well as posted on this webpage several weeks in advance. Activities meet once a week for the fall, winter, or spring season, allowing for a custom mixture of activities for a boy’s interests throughout the school year. Most after-school activities require additional tuition, and students who are currently receiving financial aid may seek funds towards them.


LAP TIMELINE MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY

Break Time (3:00 - 3:30 p.m.)  Junior School boys in grades K - III participating in LAP are dismissed from their homerooms at 3:00 p.m. Boys staying for LAP will attend Break Time—a supervised study, play, and snack time—which meets from 3:00 - 3:30 p.m. in Junior School classrooms. After Break Time, boys will be brought to their 3:30 p.m. LAP activity by their Break Time supervising teacher.  
 
LAP Activities (3:30 - 4:45 p.m.)  Junior School boys will be brought to their LAP activity at 3:30 p.m. by their Break Time supervising teacher. Middle School boys will go to their 3:30 p.m. LAP activity on their own. LAP ACTIVITIES END AT 4:45 P.M. At 4:45 p.m., the boys will be brought by their LAP teacher to the medium and small gyms for dismissal. Boys participating in Last LAP will be picked up in the medium gym by the Last LAP teacher. 
 
Last LAP (4:45 - 5:30 p.m.)  Boys who stay for Last LAP will have the opportunity to do homework, read a book, or play quiet games. They will meet with their Last LAP teacher in the medium gym after their LAP activity is dismissed. Last LAP takes place in a classroom on the first floor next to the lobby.  Last LAP boys will be brought to the lobby at 5:30 for pick-up. However, pickup from Last LAP can happen anytime in the 4:45 - 5:30 p.m. window.

Break Time (2:00 - 2:30 p.m.)  Junior School boys in grades K - III participating in LAP are dismissed from their homerooms at 2:00 p.m. Boys staying for LAP will attend Break Time—a supervised study, play, and snack time—which meets from 2:00 - 2:30 p.m. in Junior School classrooms. After Break Time, boys will be brought to their 2:30 p.m. LAP activity by their Break Time supervising teacher. 

First LAP (2:30 - 3:30 p.m.)  Junior School boys will be brought to their First LAP activity at 2:30 p.m. by their Break Time supervising teacher. Middle School boys will go to their 2:30 p.m. LAP activity on their own. FIRST LAP ACTIVITIES END AT 3:30 P.M. At 3:30 p.m., the boys will be brought by their LAP teacher to the medium and small gyms for dismissal.  Boys participating in Second LAP will be brought to their next activity by a coach or teacher.

Second LAP (3:30 - 4:30)  All boys participating in Second LAP will be brought to the small gym at 4:30 p.m. for the final dismissal. There is no Last LAP on Fridays.

Fall 2026 activities will begin on Monday, September 14, and run through Thursday, December 17. (Kindergarten boys will begin Tuesday, September 22.)
