Printing in the Third Dimension

by Jackson D. and Frank K., Grade VI

While Jackson D., Frank K., and Campbell H. were working on their sixth grade history project on the War of 1812, they thought about what they could do other than the typical presentation.  Two of them knew how to print in 3D, so they decided to try printing a cannon modeled on one used in battles on St. Bernard's 3D printer.

At first the 3D printer was not downloading their cannon file, so Frank and Jackson tried printing a crossbow.  The crossbow took awhile to print, and they left it to print overnight.  In the morning, the crossbow had finished, and it printed pretty well, but it wasn’t perfect.

Campbell, who helped with the first cannon, came in the following morning to help with printing it again.  They downloaded the file with the cannon onto the printer.  It took about two hours to print.  When it was done, the computer department said it was the best quality object it has ever seen from a 3D printer.  It was not the first thing printed St. Bernard’s 3D printer, but it was the best.
