Grade IV Tours Roman Art at the Met

Earlier this week the fifth grade walked to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to view Roman art and artifacts.  The fifth grade has been studying Ancient Rome in history class, and their teachers Mr. Davis and Mr. Russell arranged for them to have docent led tours.  At the museum the boys spent a lot of time looking at wall painting and sculpture.  Many times the docent asked if they knew of the person or character depicted, and the boys were pleased to put their knowledge of Greek myth and Roman politicians to good use.  They were also excited to see the fresco painted room from the Villa of P. Fannius Synistor, of which they already had encountered in history class.  That a room constructed in Italy could be dismantled and seamlessly reassembled in a museum really intrigued them.  Upon leaving the museum, each boy could proclaim, "Veni, vidi, vici."
