Grade III Trip to Tenement Museum

By Lindsay Wagner, Grade III teaching assistant

On October 15, 2014, the third grade visited the Tenement Museum on the Lower East Side to learn about the lives of working class immigrant families who lived in that very apartment building at 97 Orchard Street in the 19th and 20th centuries.  After touring the museum and tenements our tour guides challenged the boys to create things out of fabric and paper scraps using scissors and glue.  The boys learned that many immigrant families participated in craft activities in the 1800s and still do today.  The boys partnered with one another, built games, and began playing with them, including tic-tac-toe boards, ball and cup basket tosses, and checker boards.  It was a fun morning for all!
