Geography Bee

by Dean Kripalani

The St. Bernard’s Geography Bee (or the GeoBee, for the uninitiated) featured nine seventh and eighth grade contestants.  (Since the contest used materials supplied by the National Geographic Society, unfortunately we are not allowed to publish any of the questions so as not to give an unfair advantage to students at schools that have not yet held their bees.)  It was a challenging competition, but the boys had been well-prepared by their moderator, Mr. Clements.  Their knowledge of the location of landmarks and tributaries was impressive.  In the end Ryan C. finished as runner-up and the defending champion, Leo M., retained his crown.  Appropriately, the top three boys (Ishaan R. finished third) received world atlases.  Many thanks to Mr. Clements and our scorekeeper, Lucien G., for their help.
