Community Service Movie Night

By Oliver G., Dima G., and Miles M.
On Friday, September 28, the Community Service Club hosted a movie night in order to help buy Nathan, a teenage Jamaican boy suffering from cerebral palsy, a new wheelchair.

Cerebral palsy is a terrible disease that affects hundreds of thousands of people in the United States each year.  A new wheelchair will help Nathan overcome obstacles related to movement skills, posture, and muscles which are greatly affected by this condition.

From 4:00 to 5:45 p.m., The Community Service Club played the movie Cool Runnings, about the first Jamaican bobsled team, to help support Nathan’s cause. Over eighty kids showed up, ranging from the kindergarten to the seventh grades, to help support our cause. We raised over 2,500 dollars from the combined sales of tickets, snacks, beverages, and the raffle, all of which will go toward a new wheelchair for Nathan.
