The Dragon School Exchange Trip

by Mr. Schwartz
England’s green and pleasant land welcomed eight St. Bernard’s boys, twelve Nightingale-Bamford girls, and four chaperones during the third week in June for the annual Dragon School Exchange.

The trip started in beautiful Oxford with an exciting visit to the Pitt-Rivers Museum.  Host families indulged their guests with a variety of activities, including an introduction to a genuine duke and duchess!  A scavenger hunt in Oxford, lunch at the covered market, and an excursion to the stately Blenheim Palace with a riotous romp through the hedge maze concluded our first full day together.  Under the guidance of Dragon historian Desmond Devitt, we explored Warwick Castle including the Dungeon where students were tried, tortured, and executed for various offenses.  We bid a sad farewell to our Oxford hosts and continued our adventure in London.

Trips to the Globe Theatre to see Two Noble Kinsmen, Westminster Abbey, the London Eye, and an exciting climb to the very top of St. Paul’s Dome kept us entertained and informed.  A night out in Covent Garden to see the thriller The Woman in Black elicited blood curdling shrieks and screams from the entire audience ̶ girls, boys, and adults!  We were graced with good weather, good company, and good cheer for the whole trip.
