St. B’s Rallies for the Earth

In celebration of Earth Day, St. Bernard’s School joined other independent schools for a “Student Rally for the Earth” on Sunday, April 22.  They gathered to celebrate the Earth, to educate others, and to inspire New Yorkers to care for the Earth.

Mr. Davis arrived at Union Square at 10:00 a.m. and met with St. B’s students Peter K. and Oliver W.  They joined students from Town, Spence, and Hewitt, among others, and rallied.  With signs in hand, they walked around the square and chanted, “Earth Day every day / Bring back the EPA.”  Several teachers presented short speeches.  One of the teachers was a former lawyer who worked for Obama on civil rights issues.  He had secured a permit for the students to protest ahead of time and helped organize the effort.  This was the first gathering of independent schools at this location in honor of Earth Day.  About fifty people participated, and they hope to plan a rally for Earth Day in future years.

We are proud of the St. B’s boys who represented our school at this Earth Day rally.  Thanks to Mr. Davis for organizing.
