Ringing in the New Year with Creativity

Over the holidays second graders delivered some special hand-made gifts to their loved ones.  The boys had been working on these projects in their craft class in the weeks leading up to the winter holiday.

Under the guidance of Ms. Sherman, the boys created 2018 calendars featuring collages made from construction paper.  The boys cut out all of the pieces by hand and arranged them on the appropriate month of the year.  Each boy found ways to make every collage unique and reflect his personality.  They put their finishing touches on their calendar covers using colored pencils and crayons.

This project spanned twelve weeks, the longest craft project in St. B’s recent history.  Crafts are an important part of the Junior School curriculum as they help the boys develop and strengthen their dexterity while having fun.  They learn how to follow instructions, take risks, and see a project through to completion.

Ms. Sherman encouraged the boys to share their calendars with someone special to them.  Each boy thought about the person the gift was intended for as he added details to his project.  They were excited to give their calendars as gifts and ring in the New Year with this outstanding surprise.
