Keeping it Green in Central Park

St. B’s boys usually go to Central Park to enjoy playgrounds, sports fields, and nature just down the block from school.  Last week boys in Kindergarten and third grade spent some time giving back to Central Park.

For the second consecutive year, St. B’s boys raked leaves with volunteers from the Central Park Conservancy’s Keeping it Green program.  Boys learned that raking leaves helps the grass underneath remain healthy through the fall and winter seasons.  They used rakes that were just their size and had great fun learning how to use a yellow claw tool to scoop up piles of leaves.  The boys worked well together and shared their tools with each another.  They worked quickly and happily and cleaned up quite a few areas.  The boys and the Central Park Conservancy volunteers all smiled in “disbeleaf” when they learned that, in total, they had collected ninety-five bags of leaves!

Special thanks to Ms. Oshins, Director of Community Service, for organizing the Keeping it Green activities, and to the Central Park Conservancy volunteers who worked with our boys.
