Thanksgiving Week at St. Bernard’s School

by Kate Fiscus, Director of Old Boys
Our holiday week began with the annual Fathers Dinner on Monday, November 20.  The University Club of New York hosted 270 fathers, teachers, and staff members for a delicious dinner and an entertaining evening.

Our featured speaker was Fareed Zakaria, host of CNN’s flagship foreign affairs show Fareed Zakaria GPS.  Mr. Zakaria is also a columnist for The Washington Post, a contributing editor for The Atlantic, and a New York Times bestselling author.  The evening concluded by honoring the following faculty and staff members for celebrating milestone years of service:  Carlo Di Fazio, Andrew Hagon, Cynthia Milstead, Pamela Navarre, Gene Rice, and Stephen Sechrist.

Wednesday morning’s assembly included a reading of “The Mayflower Compact.”  In keeping with tradition, the 2016 winner of the Mayflower Compact Prize, awarded to a Grade VI boy by the Mayflower Society, read aloud the agreement.  Teddy N. then passed on the award to the 2017 Mayflower prize winner Aman M.  Boys in Grade I performed “Over the River and Through the Wood” to officially kick off this holiday season.

At 12:30 p.m., St. Bernard’s was alive with high school- and college-aged Old Boys for the Junior Old Boys Lunch.  The small gym quickly filled with 140 boys and teachers before lunch was served in the cafeteria thanks to Chef Wells and her talented staff.  Many attendees stayed after lunch to play basketball in the seventh floor gym with Mr. Moraitis.  We are happy so many Old Boys returned to catch up with friends and faculty.

We hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving.
