The 2021 Cross Country Season

by Eric Hill
Fall Cross Country 2021 was the most successful season St. Bernard’s has had since the team began competing in 1998.

Owen G. set a record that may never be bettered or equaled, except, perhaps, by himself when he returns for his eighth grade year.  The team attended six of the seven meets held on the 1.5 mile course at Van Cortlandt Park, and Owen won all six of them, improving his time incrementally each week.  For the final championship meet, he clocked a time of 9:12, raising the possibility of breaking nine minutes next season.

The team practiced with intention every day; the camaraderie and group awareness was tangible. Inspired by Owen and the enthusiastic attendance of many loyal team parents, all of the boys put their hearts and souls into every race.  The entire season was an experience none of us shall ever forget.
