2021 Raffle

The theme of this year’s raffle was “St. B’s loves NY,” a tribute to the city we call home.

The Raffle is a charming tradition to raise money for the Parents Association. The entire community, including students, families, faculty, and Old Boys, buys $5 tickets for one another and themselves.  In a normal year the paper tickets are counted by hand and most of the money comes in the form of wadded up dollar bills and lots and lots of coins.  COVID restrictions meant the raffle was moved online this year and the Raffle Committee worked tirelessly to take advantage of the technology while keeping alive the spirit of the old school Raffle we love.

The Raffle Committee was made up of parents Deb D., Kim E., Kim L., Carey M., and Ashleigh R.  The group began soliciting prize donations in the fall and put together a handsome catalog filled with over 200 prizes starting with the most popular prize, “Headmaster for the Day.”  The catalog cover was illustrated by the talented Juliana O.  New this year was a raffle “film” which followed St. B’s boys as they discussed the history of Central Park.  The film was directed by Donald R. and produced by Amy K. and John S.

The culmination of all of this effort was the raffle drawing, with the top prizes announced during Friday assembly.  Teachers and division heads came up with clever ways to proclaim each lucky winner.  This year was a record breaker -- over 22,000 tickets were sold, 6,000 of which were purchased on behalf of the faculty and staff. The proceeds raised by the Raffle will be used by the Parents Association to support the school.

This has been quite a year, and the Raffle provided a much needed whimsical distraction.  Many thanks to all involved in keeping the tradition and merriment of the Raffle alive and well.
