Virtual Old Boys Dinner

The Old Boys Dinner has been held every year since 1916.  The pandemic kept Old Boys from gathering in the school gyms this year, but a virtual Old Boys Dinner proved to be a fine bridge to keep the tradition going through these unusual times.

Last night, close to 100 Old Boys gathered on Zoom for about an hour with Mr. Moraitis and Old Boys Council co-presidents Harry Davison ‘76 and Nico Landrigan ‘93.  They reminisced about the old days with one another in Zoom breakout rooms, heard about how the school is doing this year, and of course sang the Old Boys’ Song along with Ms. Fertel and Mr. Risinger.  Classes of 1951 to 2012 were represented.  Kate Fiscus put together a wonderful collection of photos from the archives, set to school songs.  (You may watch her video by clicking here.)

Ms. Fiscus mailed early registrants a St. Bernard’s wine glass and Mr. Moraitis led the group in a toast to Stuart Johnson, thanking him for all that he has given to St. Bernard’s and wishing him all the best in his new role as headmaster of Tuxedo Park School.  The group hopes he is able to attend next year’s Old Boys Dinner.

The wonders of Zoom enabled Old Boys from destinations as far as France and Scotland to participate.  In his remarks, Harry Davison said that the Old Boys should think of themselves as “torch bearers of tradition.”  Many thanks to all involved keeping this special tradition alive and well.
