Old Boys Dinner 2020

Kate Fiscus, Director of Old Boys
The Old Boys Dinner, held on January 16, 2020, welcomed a new decade of Old Boys events.
While we usher in a new era, it is important to recognize the shared history among attendees that evening.  Old Boys from the class of 1942 through the class of 2011 came back to East 98th Street.  Old Boys traveled from California, Arizona, and Florida to toast with classmates and faculty members.  Whether their former teacher was Mr. Westcott or Mrs. Gridley, Mr. Demeny or Mr. Hill, they share the same warm feelings about reconnecting.

We are fortunate to have an event that allows for Old Boys across nearly seventy years to come together in the same room.  During this time, there have been six headmasters, the addition of Grade IX (1973), the start of kindergarten (1997), and a performance of sixteen different Shakespeare plays.  Old Boys at the 2020 dinner can also tell you about the first time the alligator picked the cleanest classroom (1959), the first Commencement ceremony (1960), the first yearbook (1980), and the first Upper School speech contest (1991).

The Old Boys Dinner is more than a cocktail hour, more than a buffet, and more than an annual event.  The Old Boys Dinner is a night when the school’s living history comes together to reaffirm what makes St. Bernard’s so special.  The night would not be possible without our Director of Security, Julio Rodriguez, our maintenance team led by Greg Jensen, or our catering staff led by Carolyn Wells.  Many thanks to our Old Boys who keep this extraordinary tradition alive and thriving.
