2019 Old Boys Dinner

By Kate Fiscus, Director of Old Boys
In keeping with tradition, Old Boys, faculty, and former faculty come together to celebrate St. Bernard’s on the third Thursday in January at the annual Old Boys Dinner.  On January 17, Old Boys near and far came back to St. Bernard’s for the most anticipated Old Boys event of the year.

What does it take to feed over 200 Old Boys?  Cater to You prepared 70 pounds of potatoes, 140 pounds of short ribs, 50 pounds of salmon, and 30 pounds of French green beans to keep the buffet full.  We ordered 480 dinner plates; second (even third) helpings were encouraged.  700 bar glasses were rented so attendees could enjoy drinks of their choice, including the Old Boys Dinner signature cocktail – a classic old fashioned.

Who came back this year?  The class of 1994 recorded the largest attendance, 14 Old Boys, to celebrate their 25th class reunion.  There were 11 sets of brothers, and 5 Old Boys traveled from California to join us.  Charlie Kinsolving ’40 represented the most senior Old Boy in the room, while the class of 2010 lit cigars among their fellow Old Boys for the first time.

Did you miss the dinner?  You can search for familiar faces in the photo album accompanying this article.  You can also shop the online store for St. B’s gear at www.stbernards.org/onlinestore.  If your class ends in a 4 or 9, it’s your reunion year!  Please e-mail Kate Fiscus to begin to plan spring receptions to celebrate.

Thank you to Mark Risinger for teaching the Back to the Classroom portion that night and for leading some rarely heard Old Boys songs.  We owe a great deal of thanks to Cater to You, the St. Bernard’s maintenance team, and Julio Rodriguez, director of security, for putting in extra hours and hard work to make the night a success.

We will see you back next year! Save the date for the next Old Boys Dinner on January 16, 2020.
