New York City FC Match with Coach Miceli

New York, Oh New York
Oh City said I
I’ll stand here in the bleachers, until the day I die
Take me to the Bronx, that’s where I want to be
Because I follow New York, New York City!

On a windy Saturday in April, twenty-five St. Bernard’s Old Boys, parents, and students made their way to the Bronx to cheer on the Boys in Blue.  Since 2015, the New York City Football Club has played at Yankee Stadium.  The Third Rail, New York City’s official supporters group, welcomed St. Bernard’s with open arms to root for NYCFC against Orlando City SC.  Coach Miceli was at the game and welcomed everyone from St. B’s.  He had a wonderful time catching up with Old Boys and spending time with current families as a fan rather than as a coach.

There was something for everyone at the match.  The younger boys enjoyed face painting and balloon animals.  Everyone enjoyed delicious snacks and drinks, and the game was especially exciting in the second half, when our Pigeons came from behind to tie the game.  While the match ended in a draw (1-1), the energy felt throughout the stadium proved that this fan base is here to stay.  NYCFC finished the game with 66% possession and 5 shots on target.

Old Boys, students, and parents all had a terrific time and remained cheerful amid the chilly weather.  Many thanks to Coach Miceli, who spent time with everyone before the game to catch up and talk about his impressive soccer career.  We look forward to supporting NYCFC for the rest of their season and to seeing St. B’s friends on and off the field.
